Last week, Idealist.org was one of many partners who collaborated with Mozilla for the first ever Mozilla Service Week. The goal was to encourage individuals who want to make both the Web and the world a better place to step up and offer nonprofits their talents. The results were impressive. Volunteers donated more than 6,000 hours of their time, and there are over 4,000 tech-related opportunities still listed on the site.
But although the official week is over, there are still plenty of opportunities to let your inner geek out. If you’re currently based in Latin America, you can: teach children computers in the Dominican Republic; assist with web marketing or conduct IT trainings in Ecuador; create a virtual newsletter in Colombia; develop a data/impact management tool for nonprofits or improve an IT system in Brazil; design an interactive eco map in Mexico; lead database trainings or direct social media in Guatemala; design a webpage in Belize; develop a website or lend IT support in Peru, and build a database in Costa Rica.
This is only a sample of what’s out there; check back to see what other opportunities arise in your community. Even if you don’t come across anything in your local area, there are plenty of ways to get involved no matter where you are in the world.
