Every month we’ll be posting an entry from a guest contributor who has some advice, resources, information and/or inspiration they want to share. This month’s guest contributor is Talia Krevsky, an intern with Idealist.org who spent a couple months down in Buenos Aires this summer.

Are you a new arrival to the Argentine nonprofit sector? An expat who wants to know a bit more about local NGOs before diving in? Or even a native Argentine curious about the shifting nature of the nonprofit world?

I happened to fit into the first two categories. I’m a native New Yorker, who interned with Idealistas.org (Idealist’s sister Spanish site) in Buenos Aires over the New York summer, and the Argentine winter. I arrived with little to no knowledge on the country or the city – let alone the nonprofit world.

After less than two months of immersion, I’m reluctant to make any sweeping statements about Argentina’s nonprofit sector. Yet, I’m embracing my raw perception as one scrawled on a clean, relatively unbiased slate. A slate I would have found useful upon my arrival.

So to help you out, I conducted several interviews with Idealistas staff members (many of whom are experts on this sector) and supplemented this with my own experiences to create a document of my first impressions, in the form of an informal overview of Argentina’s nonprofit sector. I hope this can serve as a starting guide as you navigate your way in the vast but ultimately accessible territory that comprises the tercer sector. ¡Suerte!
